Nathan's Parent Teacher Conference

A couple of weeks ago we had nathan's parent teacher conference.  Everything is going well with him.  Academically he is doing great.  Socially he's doing pretty well (especially compared to last year).  What a difference a year and a good teacher can make.  She actually has structure that she follows through on.  He can tell me the rules of the classroom... yada yada yada.  His main thing that he needs to work on is organization and following directions that are more than 2 things in a row.  If they are supposed to color a worksheet, he is supposed to get the worksheet, get the crayons and sit down.  Nathan will get the work sheet and then sit down.  Then he will remember the crayons and have to get back up again (organization).  She may tell nathan to do three things (go to her desk, find the marker and the crayon, and bring it to her).  He usually makes it to her desk but by that time he forgets what he was going to her desk for.  Things like that.  She said those things are difficult to teach.  We will just have to keep modeling the correct behaviour for him and he will get it as he gets older.

I really enjoyed talking with her and I think he's really doing well with her.  She said he always makes her laugh.  If she ever needs a laugh she sits next to him while he's doing his journaling because he has these fantastic stories.  And if she tries to guess something about the picture and she gets it wrong he says "Well... actually..."  This is so typical Nathan and something we all have heard so many times from him.  I love that he says it to her and that she remembers it.

All in all a good transition year so far.  :)
