I love 3 days weekends... not only because you get an extra day off from work, but because when you go back to work, there's only 4 days left to work. YEAH!!!
We had a great weekend. Saturday we went to a picnic in our newest favorite park in Mystic. We ate, we played, we got sunburned. Nathan wasn't even too shy to play with some of the other adults and let mommy and daddy off the hook for a little while. Forgot the camera but hopefully I will get some pictures from the other people who were there. We left the park around 2. We got home around 2:20 and he fell asleep in the car for about 5 minutes. He was sooo exhausted I thought for sure he would just go right back to sleep. I was terribly wrong. So no nap on Saturday. But he was mostly in a good mood and was asleep by 7:30 that night. Also it was someone's anniversary so my dear husband made a yummy yummy chicken dish full of cream and fat. Very yummy. Then because we hadn't had enough fat for the day, we had Ben and Jerry's after Nathan went to sleep. Overall a pretty good day, even though we weren't able to get a babysitter so we could go out for our anniversary. Maybe this weekend.
In order to counter balance Saturday's good mood, Sunday started off with a lot of whining (mostly from Nathan, but a bit from Daddy, who's turn it was to get up early with him and is not known for his tolerance of whining). By the time I got up at 8, I think the two of them were about ready to strangle each other. I believe the mood was so sour due to a underwhelming amount of sleep and the 2 year molars which he's been sticking his fingers in to feel for the past 3 weeks. They dont' make him cranky all the time but there are days when he's just sooo sensitive and his frustration level is -10. I find a little tylenol and a quiet story help. We had been planning on running a bunch of errands in the morning before nap time, including Nathan's first trip to toys r us to do a little birthday shopping for a certain little crank pot. Due to the mood of the house, we decided to forgo ToysRUs figuring we should not reward such behaviour and if he's acting like this at home, what's he goign to act like in THE haven of all toys? So we went to target and got something to help me nest (more later). Then we went to BJ's for a little shopping and to get gas and went back home. He really enjoyed the car ride. I think sometimes he just gets on sensory overload and needs some quite time with restraints. The car seat is the best place for this. He was really good while we did all of the shopping. We were heading home by about 1PM. He was looking pretty sleepy, but I was determined that he would have a good nap on this day. So we sang songs and talked about the things out the window, anything to keep him awake in the car. We finally got home and I took him upstairs and read him some stories and BAM... he's awake. Well to bad, because mommy was too tired to deal with him and he really was sleepy. So I just put him in his crib and left him there. He SCREAMED for about 20 minutes and then was quiet for the next 3 HOURS!!! See we knew he was exhausted.. he just didn't want to give up the fight. He was in a much better mood after his nap. He grabbed both my hand and matt's hand when we were outside and said WALK! So the three of us went for a short walk around the block sans stroller. Sunday night matt made beer can barbeque chicken, corn on the cob and sweet potatoes. YUMMY!! Nathan of course wouldn't eat anything but pickles but oh well.
Monday we decided to go to Pauchag state forest to the green pond falls lake. They have a nice little beach there and there's pleny of shade to get ouf of the sun when you need it. Plus it's fresh water, which when you fall face first into it and swallow a bunch before mommy and daddy resuce you, makes the recovery much less of a problem. Plus, when you get splashed and rub your eyes it's not a tragedy. At first he was pretty tentative about the whole thing. He was just fascinated by the bigger kids in the water. Then finally he decided to follow mommy down to the water. We took a little squishy ball that soaks up water but still floats, so he was throwing that around and chasing it. Then he took mommy and daddy's hands and we swung him in the water which was the best thing ever. He had no fear about going deeper into the water. Unfortunately mommy and daddy were certain that he would only want to dunk his toes in so we didn't bring swim suits. Silly us. But he was fine, we just had to chase him a few times. He found out that it's hard to run in the water without falling over, hence the face plant. But he came up sputtering and walked out of the water for a bit and then walked right back in. No crying or anything. i was amazed... now if only he could do that when we have to get his hair wet in the bathtub. We ate lunch, played a bit more and left by about 1PM. Another half hour ride home during which I kept him awake the whole time. He was exhausted by the time we got home. Once again the screaming when I put him down for his nap but he was a goner after about 10 minutes this time. Didn't sleep as long (1.5 hours) but enough to let me take a nice little nap as well. Monday night he was in a goofy, lovey mood. He would come up to one of us and grab on and give us the biggest hug and then look in our faces and laugh, run away and come back for round 2 a few minutes later. He even sang the "my mommy, my daddy" song at dinner. Every once in a while he gets in the mood and he just sings "my mommy, my daddy", over and over again. I was telling matt last night it's like when we look at him sleeping and we are just filled with this overwhelming urge to hug him and squeeze him and pinch his cheeks. I think that's the mood he was in last night. He was just soo happy and lovey.
This morning, a bit cranky but most likely because he knew he was going back to school today. i get cranky about that too, especially after such a nice long weekend. Hope you all had as nice of a weekend.
