Non verbal Communication

Nathan's teacher related this story to me this morning.

At naptime nathan is supposed to be on his cot. He never sleeps at naptime and usually after resting for a bit they let him get up and play quietly. Well his cot is near one of the tables and his teacher was sitting across the room with another child trying to get them to go to sleep. She said from across the room she saw him pop up off his cot and sit at the table. Once he saw her looking at him, he popped back down to his cot. He did this about 4 times and the last time he just sat there looking at her with his big brown eyes and a little smile on his face. So she signed to him "no". He looked at her and signed "play". She signed "no" again and he resigned "play". I'm sure she really didn't expect a response from him when she signed no and so she said she had the hardest time not laughing out loud when he signed play.

I said, well you are the one who taught him to sign. Now he can argue with you verbally and non verbally. :) She gives seminars on non verbal communication and how you can use it in the classroom. Nathan will now be an example in her next seminar. :)
