We had a great weekend. The weather was gorgeous. Saturday after Nathan's nap we went to the beach. We got there around 4PM. So the parking was free and it wasn't too crowded. At first nathan just sat there and looked around. Then we would venture into the sand a bit but when I took him down the water he was not impressed. So I said let's just go then... well of course right after that he started running around the beach and getting his feet wet. He had a good time. We went to Friendly's for dinner and he was goofy and sweet the whole time.
Sunday we went to visit Grandpa at a festival in Charleston RI. It was about 30 minutes from the house. Nathan had a good time watching the people dancing and playing the instruments. Then grandpa let him play with some of the buttons on the sound board. That was pretty interesting. That night we had tacos for dinner. This was one of the first times that Nathan actually ate ground beef. YEAH!!! His bellly hasn't been right for a while so hopefully now we are back on the right track.
Monday we hung around the house and played in mommy's flowerbed's for a little while. Then Nathan took his nap and we were able to just rest outside and enjoy the nice weather. When he woke up we drove up to Voluntown. Now really we just wanted to get ice cream at Buttonwood Farm. We have only been there one other time this summer. But we needed an excuse to go up there... Matt says we can't drive all the way up there just for ice cream... I personally see no problem with that. So we went to Green Falls Pond in the state forest. It was really nice even though we drove for about 15 minutes on a gravel road to get to the pond. Again it was about 4PM so there were only 2 other families there. The water was really warm and really clear. We could see all these fish swimming around. Once again it took nathan a little while to warm up, but because there were less people there it took much less time. The clincher was when the ducks showed up. DUCKS!!! Nathan just kept pointing and saying duck. then someone started feeding them (not daddy, someone else). And they came right over to us. Nathan was ecstatic. When they started to swim away he tried to follow them. He was waist deep in the water before we had to turn him around and distract him with something else. He had a really great time and forgot about the teeth that had been bothering him the entire trip up to the pond (and then the entire way home from the pond).
Then we got ice cream... yes ice cream before dinner but we looked for someplace to eat and there was NOTHING. Not even a pizza joint. How do those people live up there in the boonies. Anyway, we got ice cream. Nathan looked interested in my purple cow (raspberry with white chocolate). So I gave him a little chunk that was too big and too cold and too hard. Then I had to play momma bird. I softened the ice cream up in my mouth and then gave it to him on the spoon. Boy did he love that. Soon the ice cream started melting a bit on the cone so i could just give it to him straight. He was in heaven... first ducks and then ice cream. He would walk away from me and then come running over with his mouth open for more ice cream. If he walked too far I just held out my spoon and called his name and he'd come running over. FINALLY.. Nathan likes ice cream. For a little while there I was worried that he was some sort of freak of nature. :)
It was a fun weekend. It was great to have the all three of us home for the weekend. It's been a while since that's happened.
